The City of Sydney is a relatively new city with early European settlement dating from 1788 when the soldiers and convicts of the First Fleet dropped anchor at Sydney Cove. Sydney began its life as a penal colony, with free settlers arriving from 1793. There are many reminders of early life in Sydney with many buildings beautiful persevered. One such place is Cockatoo Island which is located in the heart of Sydney Harbour, it is only a short ferry ride from Circular Quay. Cockatoo Island is a historically significant place where you can explore historic landmarks and if you like you can stay overnight. It is free to explore and you will find cafes and restaurants on the island. Another place full of history is the Hyde Par Barracks.
The City of Sydney has many attraction so you will be busy exploring the area.
